PERC extends deepest congratulations to MA Art and Science student Hannah Scott, who was awarded the MullenLowe NOVA Award Runner Up. The awards recognise and showcase promising talent in creativity, and celebrate innovators and risk takers. Hannah’s work “explores the relationship between consumer lifestyle in Britain and the Arctic environment, with particular focus on the impact of plastic waste.” Hannah’s final piece references “current scientific research on climate change and plastic pollution,” coupled with the personal loss of both her parents. The result is a unique practice, one that is “partly auto ethnographic, centring the artist within exploration as an observer and as one of the observed”.”
The judges praised her entry for “challenging the audience to question the impact of their own lifestyle choices, central to which is an exploration of the ways art can effectively communicate scientific and environmental issues without being didactic or overly moralistic.”
