{"id":7096,"date":"2025-03-04T14:09:18","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T01:09:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/perc.ac.nz\/wordpress\/?page_id=7096"},"modified":"2025-03-04T14:09:21","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T01:09:21","slug":"dr-sy-taffel","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/perc.ac.nz\/wordpress\/dr-sy-taffel\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Sy Taffel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Senior Lecturer, Media Studies<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sy is a co-director of the Massey University Political Ecology Research Centre and is one of the centre&#8217;s founding members. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His research interests include political ecologies of digital media, digital media and political activism, the material impacts of media hardware, pervasive\/locative media, software studies, social media and peer-to-peer production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sy has co-edited two anthology volumes arising from PERC conferences: <em>Ecological Entanglements in the Anthropocene<\/em> with Nick Holm and <em>Plastic Legacies: Pollution, Persistence, and Politics<\/em> with Trisia Farrelly and Ian Shaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sy has published widely around the environmental impacts of digital technologies in journals including&nbsp;<em>Environment and Planning E: Nature and Space<\/em>, <em>New Media and Society<\/em>, <em>Media, Culture and Society<\/em>, <em>Cultural Politics, Culture Machine, <\/em>and<em> The European Journal of Media Studies<\/em> among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sy also makes documentary\/activist films, including for environmental groups such as the Environment Network Manawatu and Carrying Our Future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Selected publications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Taffel, S.
